Great to be in Iowa with a great farm family, the John Preussners, April 10, 2010 Being with John, Julie and their super kids, Will, Ellie, and Luke this week in Manchester-Dundee, Iowa was an honor. Julie is home schooling three of the finest young people Mary Beth and I have ever met. John and his family have been major Iowa farmers for years. Great family!

ObamaCare and loss of freedoms
Investors.com has through their blog posted an article entitled "20 Ways Obamacare Will Take Away Our Freedoms". Written by David Hogberg on March 2lst the post lists for anyone Democrat or Republican a summary of the freedoms taken away by this bill.
Rather than Democrat party tainted rhetoric it simply presents a skeptical look at all the security the bill's advocates state that we now enjoy. I suggest to the advocates of this healthcare reform bill, read the article and then comment.
It seems evident to me that the author's quote from Benjamin Franklin is most appropriate as the President is signing the bill. "People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both."

The argument that within our Constitution one is hard pressed to find an argument for compelling anyone to buy health insurance seems to have validity. Yet nullification of an excessive healthcare plan that spends us into oblivion while cutting Medicare benefits over 500 billion while effectively creating a public option is a poor strategy. To nullify anything is to admit to its potential for permanence in law. That decision is yet to be resolved by that reverent group, the Supreme Court, who Obama, in poor taste recently lectured at the State of the Union 2010 edition.
Several Congressional procedural issues seem in clear violation of the U.S. Constitution and will be ultimately decided by the judicial branch of our government. Yet, awaiting that day of legal revelation which will no doubt effect Obama's healthcare reform miasma, there is another more effective strategy available to the majority of Americans who oppose this legislative detour which has kept the nation's attention off recent massive unemployment numbers.
This basic strategy to eliminate Obama healthcare reform and his misdirection of national resources are the looming elections of 2010 and 2012 and the recognition by all of us of the possibility for change. The Senate majority leader earlier in the year proclaimed that bills unread and quickly passed in the dark of night cannot be amended or changed. Sorry Harry, a nation who put men on the moon can change any provision you have crammed though the Congress. All types of issues are at work with the administration's abrogation of legislative procedures including, due procedure, constitutional compliance, and the ability to change the political configuration of both houses of Congress. Elimination of this new healthcare bill can be accomplished easily in full not later than 2012. The extra taxes take from us soon on income to pay for this plan not even in effect can be refunded by a new Congress and American President in full during 2013. Harry Reid, cram down is always beaten by pay back and when that day comes Americans should get their money returned with interest.
Finally, this bad bill will be reversed by the will to see things changed by most voters. What if we had accepted as a nation the conquests of the Nazi's and Japanese forces in WW II. I assume that some voters probably exclaimed during those horrendous times, these things can't be changed. That's not the way it happened with Americans, we were determined at all costs to defend freedom and ultimately the wars were won.
Assuming this healthcare reform bill is passed, all we need to overturn it is hope and change. Sound familiar, but this time voters are determined to make it more than an empty cliché.

NEEDED FIRST A NUCLEAR POSTURE REVIEW
No President should take this type of unilateral disarmament capriciously or arbitrarily without a complete Nuclear Posture Review done by the pentagon along with many additional national security experts. Although NPR's are usually kept secret President's Clinton and Bush both had their NPR's which according to leaks apparently arrived at similar conclusions. This type of study factors into the equation among other things, what the nation's needs will be for years in light of foreign governments and their military development plans.
This type of suggested action far exceeds a White House Staff exercise. One would hope that a President would realize the importance of contemplating this action only after serious evaluation of future national security needs.
Many Americans continue to be amazed at the administration's efforts to get voters focus off the need for job restoration. In spite of rhetoric to the contrary the jobs priority is proving to be only a minor focus of White House energy. With perhaps as many as 22 million Americans out of work and the nation's indebtedness growing each minute, I believe jobs are a national security issue.
If the administration continues its vacillation on unemployment in all sectors of the country, they will begin to lose their right to govern come the elections of 2010 and 2012. Should they unilaterally reduce the nuclear stockpile without a NPR and arduous study, their legacy will be one of incompetence. If this disarming action is taken without the needed NPR, we can only hope that rogue nations will not take advantage of the President's weakness. After all, to provide for the national defense is a constitutional presidential requirement.

There is an issue much larger than tea partyers, or the other party labels, watch for it in 2010 and 2012. IS EXPERIENCE AS AN OFFICE HOLDER, A GUARANTEE OF HONESTY, INTEGRITY, IN OFFICE? Former Senator John Edwards is a telling argument which both parties often use in selecting candidates to run for the presidency. The clarion call today by both parties is seek an office holder and you’ll get true service and expertise. Really? I don’t think that’s true in all cases. The founders knew this far better than many in today’s media who look for sensationalism at most turns. A Governor from South Carolina, Senator from Nevada, Congressman from New Orleans, Governor from Illinois, the list is quite extensive and growing longer each year. That’s why founders like Abraham Baldwin, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock and others would not be considered in 2012 for higher office by either party.
A reputation for honesty, integrity, constitutional adherence, respect for the law, deep commitment to the voters, love for the nation, wife and family, often seem to be overlooked and we foolishly elect a “leader” like John Edwards. John Edwards, a lawyer who was elected to the U.S. Senate, chosen as a Vice Presidential running mate for John Kerry, living a secret life filled with schemes and intrigue, what a disaster.
Is your elected official representing you by keeping his oaths, representing your views and upholding integrity and honesty in his life? If not, the next time you are looking for a candidate you might want to discount experience which has been imaged, and place integrity at the top of your list.

OP ED submisson by Dr. Phillips on U.S. Chamber's Plan for Job Growth

DEVELOPING A PLAN FOR JOB GROWTH, THE U.S. CHAMBER’S EFFORT
The administration must develop an action plan in this New Year 2010 for job growth. If the President fails to reference a meaningful proposal for job creation-restoration at his coming State of the Union address, he and the administration will face a challenging future.
On January 12, 2010, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce president, Thomas Donahue in his “state of business” address shared a ten year plan to create 20 million new jobs. This plan, imperfect at best, represents an attempt to address a major under and unemployment employment problem that threatens economic recovery and America's future. Several Chamber of
Commerce observations are worth examination, they include;
Removal of trade barriers, expanding exports-I support this concept with two major refinements, jobs must be prohibited from export to foreign nations and trade should function on a level playing field, even if it means renegotiation of some existing trade agreements by the administration might be required.
Elimination of new taxes, maintain them at current levels-To provide incentives for U.S. job creation-restoration, there should be a major reduction in federal and state taxes on corporations, elimination of the capital gains levy, realizing that anything less is not an incentive for companies to create-restore jobs in the U.S. Martin Feldstein spoke to this practice in a May 14, 2009 article in the Wall Street Journal on “Tax Increases Could Kill the Recovery”. He reminded the administration and voters that “Historians and economists who’ve studied the 1930’s conclude that the tax increases passed during that decade derailed the economy and slowed the decline in unemployment. That was true of the tax on corporate earnings and of the 1937 introduction of the payroll tax. Japan did the same destructive thing by raising its value-added tax rate in 1977.”Countries like Ireland limiting corporate tax rates to 12.5% have attracted and created many new jobs and continue to attract businesses.
Build more roads and bridges with private capital-I support infrastructure improvement if it creates thousands of new jobs specifically targeted to projects of state, regional and national importance. The congress should support the adoption of bills such as HR2521 which seeks to establish a National Infrastructure Bank to direct private and public capital to infrastructure construction.
Boost access to capital across all business categories-I support access for large and small businesses to capital if they are known to be successful in creating-restoring jobs and are managed well. Banks must begin to lend to main street as well as small and large businesses in America. The economist for the National Federation of Independent Business has recently observed that “Capital spending is on the sidelines…Spending on capital projects remained at historic low levels, as did the demand for credit to finance such projects.” In short banks must lend not hold!
Remove uncertainty in economic direction. It is true, as the Chamber states, government uncertainty in economic direction is not a motivation for large and small businesses to create-restore jobs. The Chamber’s position however that it is opposed to taxing bank transactions, is one with which I fail to agree, unless such legislation prohibits bank pass thru of costs to consumers and small businesses, and banks continue to limit lending.
The Chamber’s goal of creating 20 million jobs in a decade, though noble, is not realistic in its time frame. Ten years is too long for millions of unemployed to wait for jobs. At least however, the plan is an imperfect effort to address the problem.

LA Times 12.11 Editorial Board Interview with Ken Kirk
Thanks for the report on U.S. Trade representative Ron Kirk's recent Q and A with the LA Times Editorial Board. He discussed very little due to his observation that TRADE TALKS ARE DONE IN SECRET. He also referred to the North American Free Trade Agreement as an EXTRAORDINARY SUCCESS. He felt their might be environmental and labor issues that need to be discussed with Mexico.
I recently returned from a trip to Iowa where I had an opportunity to talk with farmers and voters concerned about free trade in Agricultural products. Although my comments are limited for farm products, I agree with Iowans that free trade matters must be fully disclosed to the American farmer and agricultural voters.
Recently, NASDA listed concerns with regard to NAFTA and they were far less cursory than mayor Kirk's comments to the LA Times Editorial Board. They are listed below and confirm the need for FULL DISCLOSURE TO THE AMERICAN AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY;

The U.S. has been seeking approval to ship potatoes to Canada in bulk for processing. Canada mandates different disease testing procedures than those used on our side of the border. Canadian Food Inspection and AMS have agreed to meet with interested State and Provincial representatives on the testing issue in the first quarter of 1999.
Seed certification
Differences between U.S. and Canadian rules impede trade, and it was agreed in the December 2 agricultural trade understanding to work on this problem. However, no mechanism has been established to do so.
Pesticides
Canadian and U.S. standards differ, and product pricing is not uniform, even after adjusting for the exchange rate. The U.S./Canadian understanding calls for an effort to assess the differences and move towards harmonization. USDA is organizing meetings on this subject.
Veterinary chemicals
U.S. farmers are concerned about residues in animals imported for slaughter in the United States, and about the possibility of "extra-label" uses of approved chemicals.
Dairy marketing
The United States is taking Canada to the WTO over subsidy elements in provincial dairy marketing arrangements.
Grain marketing
Non-transparency of Canadian Wheat Board operations, and monopoly aspects of its marketing arrangements, remain a major area of dispute between the two countries. Canada has moved slowly on recognizing U.S. states as free of Karnal bunt.
Forest and nursery products
Canadian plant quarantine rules in relation to pine shoot beetle have been a barrier to trade for nearby states.
PARTIAL LIST OF CURRENT AGRICULTURAL TRADE ISSUES WITH MEXICO
Pre-clearance programs
The cost of pre-clearance inspection by Mexican officials in the United States is a burden on apple shipments from the two states that export to Mexico, and an insurmountable barrier for the rest. Mexico has proposed pre-clearance as a requirement for citrus exports from Florida.
AI Certification for poultry
Mexican rules requiring assurances of the absence of low-pathogenic avian influenza threatens an immediate closing of exports of many if not all poultry products.
Meat grading rules
Regulations in two or three states in northern Mexico operate as disguised barriers to trade, effectively blocking the export of U.S. beef.
Border infrastructure
Bottlenecks and red tape have a major impact on the flow of U.S. agricultural exports into Mexico. Some products can cross at only one location (e.g., swine). AMS has been conducting a Long Term Transportation Study which addresses some border issues, and there is funding in the recent Transportation Bill which could be used on border infrastructure.
Meat anti-dumping
Both pork and beef are potentially affected by anti-dumping cases brought by Mexican producer interests.
Grain testing rules
U.S. grain is imported with exceptions to published rules which are not, in the view of some USDA specialists, entirely based on sound science. The rules continue to be a source of concern.
Private commercial disputes
AMS is working with Mexican officials and the private sector on a Trade Dispute Resolution Commission on an arrangement like PACA to permit the fair settlement of disagreements affective fruit and vegetable trade. This might be expanded to cover other products as well.
Seed potatoes
Mexico accepts potatoes from Canada, but has yet to approve a protocol permitting seed potato imports from the United States.
Early warning on trade issues
USDA is putting together a proposal for a Consultative Committee which would address trade issues before they became major conflicts. There might be a role for state agricultural officials in advising or providing other systematic input within this structure.
ISSUES WITH TRILATERAL IMPLICATIONS
Biotechnology
Approval of genetically modified organisms for commercial planting is advancing at different rates in different countries, raising issues about border trade in seed (e.g., canola seed from Canada). "Nutriceuticals" are may be the biotech wave of the future.
Regionalization
Mexico has tended to insist on whole-state regions as far as plant pest status is concerned, although the United States has been willing to look at other defined geographical areas. Progress towards a common North American strategy on Asian Longhorn Beetle may point the way.
Pest risk assessment
There is a great shortage of resources to carry this out, as well as a lack of commonly-accepted methodologies. Under WTO rules, scientific risk assessments are the cornerstone of permissible quarantine and inspection protocols.
State-inspected meat products
The Administration proposes to permit interstate shipment of meat products produced under state inspection. This could have implications for trade with Mexico and Canada, both in relation to whether they would accept such products, and whether they might also seek similar changes in their respective inspection rules.
Organic foods
AMS will re-propose its rule within the next few months. Standards for "organic" food might be applied to food of non-U.S. origin, and certification of this food according to the U.S. standard is possible.
Country-of-origin labeling
This is the subject of a current GAO study. NASDA has supported labeling as a way of dealing with food safety issues. A related technical issue is that of tracing the movement of large animals.
Wildlife and disease transmission
Deer with TB, raccoons with rabies, and wildfowl with Newcastle disease do not seem to respect political borders. Control measures vary between countries, with substantial state responsibility and jurisdiction in the areas of wildlife management

The cost of pre-clearance inspection by Mexican officials in the United States is a burden on apple shipments from the two states that export to Mexico, and an insurmountable barrier for the rest. Mexico has proposed pre-clearance as a requirement for citrus exports from Florida.
AI Certification for poultry
Mexican rules requiring assurances of the absence of low-pathogenic avian influenza threatens an immediate closing of exports of many if not all poultry products.
Meat grading rules
Regulations in two or three states in northern Mexico operate as disguised barriers to trade, effectively blocking the export of U.S. beef.
Border infrastructure
Bottlenecks and red tape have a major impact on the flow of U.S. agricultural exports into Mexico. Some products can cross at only one location (e.g., swine). AMS has been conducting a Long Term Transportation Study which addresses some border issues, and there is funding in the recent Transportation Bill which could be used on border infrastructure.
Meat anti-dumping
Both pork and beef are potentially affected by anti-dumping cases brought by Mexican producer interests.
Grain testing rules
U.S. grain is imported with exceptions to published rules which are not, in the view of some USDA specialists, entirely based on sound science. The rules continue to be a source of concern.
Private commercial disputes
AMS is working with Mexican officials and the private sector on a Trade Dispute Resolution Commission on an arrangement like PACA to permit the fair settlement of disagreements affective fruit and vegetable trade. This might be expanded to cover other products as well.
Seed potatoes
Mexico accepts potatoes from Canada, but has yet to approve a protocol permitting seed potato imports from the United States.
Early warning on trade issues
USDA is putting together a proposal for a Consultative Committee which would address trade issues before they became major conflicts. There might be a role for state agricultural officials in advising or providing other systematic input within this structure.
ISSUES WITH TRILATERAL IMPLICATIONS
Biotechnology
Approval of genetically modified organisms for commercial planting is advancing at different rates in different countries, raising issues about border trade in seed (e.g., canola seed from Canada). "Nutriceuticals" are may be the biotech wave of the future.
Regionalization
Mexico has tended to insist on whole-state regions as far as plant pest status is concerned, although the United States has been willing to look at other defined geographical areas. Progress towards a common North American strategy on Asian Longhorn Beetle may point the way.
Pest risk assessment
There is a great shortage of resources to carry this out, as well as a lack of commonly-accepted methodologies. Under WTO rules, scientific risk assessments are the cornerstone of permissible quarantine and inspection protocols.
State-inspected meat products
The Administration proposes to permit interstate shipment of meat products produced under state inspection. This could have implications for trade with Mexico and Canada, both in relation to whether they would accept such products, and whether they might also seek similar changes in their respective inspection rules.
Organic foods
AMS will re-propose its rule within the next few months. Standards for "organic" food might be applied to food of non-U.S. origin, and certification of this food according to the U.S. standard is possible.
Country-of-origin labeling
This is the subject of a current GAO study. NASDA has supported labeling as a way of dealing with food safety issues. A related technical issue is that of tracing the movement of large animals.
Wildlife and disease transmission
Deer with TB, raccoons with rabies, and wildfowl with Newcastle disease do not seem to respect political borders. Control measures vary between countries, with substantial state responsibility and jurisdiction in the areas of wildlife management

I posit that the basic problem exemplified in the Republicans and Democrats cited in your article is one of insensitivity due to loss of ethics and grassroots compassion. When one feasts at the table of privilege it is easy to set aside courage and a conviction as to what is right.
All members of Congress, whatever party would do well to review these paraphrased remarks of young John Kennedy, from his Independence Day address in 1946 when he was a candidate for the Massachusetts, 11th Congressional District, he understood what they do not, right verses wrong.

Good for Jenny, she had the courage to end this man's unfaithfulness. He lied and failed to keep his oath of fidelity to her and the family for many months. She had the courage to permanently separate from Mark Sanford while the South Carolina legislature did not. A courageous woman when compared to many who were participants in commentary and opinions on this governor's pathetic morality.
For example, compare Jenny's resolve with Republican party notables like a southern governor speaking in Iowa this past summer. When asked if Sanford should resign his position the answer given focused on the fact that this was not a hanging offense. The official went on to say that this matter would not change one vote in South Carolina, I respectfully disagree.
I applaud Jenny's action, Mark is an obvious failure both as a husband and as a role model for her, the children, including many voters and their families that live in South Carolina. Jenny in separating herself from this loser has provided the model for South Carolinians stuck in similar relationships.
In the future, when South Carolinians encounter a corrupt, unfaithful, philandering leader, they should separate him from government service. Frankly, before Republicans strategize for coming elections in 2010 or 2012, they need to master the fundamentals of life: honesty, loyalty, morality, ethics, keeping an oath or vow, reputation and faithfulness. If they choose to follow the Democrat, John Edwards paradigm for marital bliss and moral consciousness, they as a party will be in deep trouble. Republicans should look to candidates who are examples of efficiency, morality and ethics. Perhaps this is why the 55 founding fathers included ethical men like Abraham Baldwin, a minister, who became a member of Congress.
I have long been a grass roots American of Republican persuasion. Like Jenny, ethics, morality, honesty, vows and oaths matter to me a great deal. In the final analysis my word is my bond. Failure in fulfilling a solemn oath is never an option for any spouse in a marriage. Frankly keeping my commitments to my family is a trust that I am delighted to uphold.
Jenny will obviously do well in whatever she decides to pursue. Her family is blessed that she is now fully at the helm of the home. Her example in facing this issue, inspires and motivates us to keep our feet firmly planted in the sanctity of our marital vows, to love, honor and to cherish.
Jenny is a winner and we are all strengthened because of her resolve and this recent action. We will not forget her and include the family in our prayers and best wishes. All of us including, our families and nation, are recipients of Jenny's incredible courage in enduring the pain of deception and finally calling a halt to this man's nonsense. Her future will be bright and rewarding filled with many achievements. His future, as he ages, is quite another matter.

Paul, as you are aware much more than lives are being wrecked by federal reserve inaction. Unemployment at the ten percent level sounds less intimidating than the real 15 to 17 percent when the underemployed are included in the data. Wrecked lives, destroyed hopes, broken wills and spirits, increased crime, devastated dreams, split marriages, increased deprivation are little encouragement for people who are told to hold steady since better days must assuredly be on the way. Your figure of the nation's need to create, restore, manufacture 300,000 jobs per month over five years is totally on target. Your analysis is real world, a real time identification of the goals we must meet to bring this nation truly back from the edge.
Where is the fervor, intensity, energy, immediacy that we witnessed as the fed bailed out banks, investment institutions, and wall street? Instead the fed gives us words; sprouts, shoots, formidable head winds, slower than expected job growth, these all confront the unemployed on a daily basis, in short a real confidence builder?
Recent articles in the Times and other publications on China's employment growth point to the importance of capital availability to create jobs in any society. Photos, accompanied by news reports, showing Chinese consumers driving new Hummers, enjoying personal use of goods and services, elevating their dreams and satisfying their wants are everywhere. Yet, we are a nation given by the fed, verbal shoots and sprouts, hope for a better day, all of which are doing little for people who have given up the hope of looking for and finding a job.
While loss of productivity continues to impede the nation's growth in development and progress, many of our educated workers and productive citizens are serving in the most menial of capacities, if working at all. I have a friend, with his Ph.D. a great teacher, admired in the classroom by students and administrators alike, being offered adjunct teaching at one course a semester, for a pittance instead of a living wage. I would like to see Wall street workers live daily and manage a home on that salary. Willing to work, industrious, productive, unquestioned expertise in his field, being ignored in this time of recession being told of sprouts and shoots. This lack of fed involvement in job creation is resulting in our largest brain drain in history.
The federal reserve staff and governors should have been actively involved in a major way in this jobs summit. Like it or not, the Chairman now must exercise strong leadership and move the institution toward alleviating this growing economic cancer which threatens to give us a third world country.
Food banks open 24/7 to address the demand of formerly productive American workers who are the finest and hardest working employees in the world. Job growth daily in China, India, Singapore, other countries resulting in spending, elevation in the quality of life for people, Yet we have become the nation of sprouts and shoots, of formidable headwinds which apparently must be accommodated by the fed with mere window dressing. Where would we be if our founders and subsequent leaders offered sprouts, broken promises and anemic plans in facing the nation's challenges of the past. We would not have become America. The federal reserve can spur this effort at this point in time and return the nation to employment growth and individual hope.

Carly Fiorina is a natural communicator and administrator. She realizes that more information shared transparently with all actual or potential voters is always the answer to really getting to know someone and their message. I have often thought, had she been truly available, what a difference she would have made for the Presidential campaign of John McCain. The tough questions asked in his presidential campaign could have been easily answered by her. She is very intelligent, meets people extremely well, and has all the qualities to make an outstanding U.S. Senator.
This past week I had the pleasure of being with Iowans in the town of Manchester. Most of those gathered to visit with me were present for my presentation on a jobs restoration program. Many at the meeting were extremely knowledgeable on the issues, one outstanding retired doctor, was extremely helpful in his comments to me and others. Dr. John was a real pleasure to meet and dialog with during the day, although first and foremost an Iowa Hawkeye fan, looking forward to the Orange Bowl, he is pulling for more Republicans in the U.S. Senate. One thing was evident to me however, there is great admiration and respect for Carly Fiorina in rural Iowa. I am confident that this is also true as well in New Jersey. She will run a strong and successful race against Barbara Boxer and when she is elected California voters will be the winners.

Involvement of those Republican conservatives active in tea party meetings, in the political process is a positive development which the party should welcome and embrace. As a party we Republicans have too often witnessed moments of ambiguity when we needed strength and firm resolve to defeat this administration's misguided proposals. In striving for a pseudo bipartisanship, even some of our leaders and candidates have not delivered the strong opposition to liberal ideas and programs being pushed by the administration.
Had it not been for motivated conservative men and women there is little doubt in my mind that we would today be fighting against additional programs in addition to, healthcare reform, cap and trade, EPA shenanigans, czars, climatic lies and fallacies, debt expansion, tax growth, massive job losses, government takeovers of corporations, student loans, banks, etc. It is irrational to hear and witness an American administration apologizing for the U.S. around the globe, taking a less robust approach to national security, wanting to close the prison at guantanamo bay, being less than solid in supporting Israel, expanding support for all liberal issues-this makes the involvement of conservatives most inspiring.
As a potential candidate for higher office, I welcome the determination of conservatives to raise funds and support those of us ready to challenge this liberal agenda and those candidates who support or fail to fight it. The financial support of like minded Americans is absolutely essential. Candidates like Carly Fiorina in California, can make a difference if supported by the conservative base. I personally welcome the support of these active conservative Republicans. I am proud to have them onboard my efforts.

Steve Forbes today wrote an excellent article appearing today in the Forbes online newsletter warning investors to watch out for Government policy making. Bad government policy inhibits and short circuits free markets which always work better than a government dominated system. Government regulation like the Smoot-Haley Tariff act helped trigger the Great Depression. The Federal Reserve's unbridled printing of money has already helped to stave off recovery.
Now, in the midst of this global warming hype and the useless Copenhagen conference the Obama EPA seeks to mandate and enforce a ludicrous Carbon Dioxide rule-endangerment finding. This is being done without regard for small business, increased taxing, increased consumer costs and the fact that the large nations of the world like China and India will not abide by such nonsense. We exhale carbon dioxide, we our mouths soons been taped?
The U.S. may be responsible for 25 percent of the globes carbon emissions. Martin Feldstein, an outstanding economist and past governmental adviser in saner days, indicates that this concept is nonsense. At best, if we adopt and follow our nation's own ridiculous mandates (Waxman-Markey) or cap and trade at best the climate might benefit by .02 Celsius. This type of reasoning by the administration and their behind the scenes planners, defies logic.
Steve Forbes, as usual has it right when he reiterates, capitalism is the way out of this economic morass. This is why this past week, while visiting with Iowans, along with myself there was utter disbelief that this government is spending time promoting this nonsense. It will further dampen the recovery and continue our slide toward a third world nation profile. This is why I continue to proposeAN INCENTIVIZED PROGRAM FOR RESTORATING THE AMERICAN ECONOMY TO FULL EMPLOYMENT QUICKLY, a return to the values of capitalism.
For job growth, I propose an incentives economic program which proposes to focus on job restoration. Once job creation has the priority status it deserves, the next step is to build on proven programs and add new ones to address the scale and nature of joblessness.

I propose an incentives economic program which focuses on job restoration. In summary the concept is a simple one, lower state and federal taxes on corporations that return jobs from overseas, or create their numerical equivalents in new occupations for the American worker.
As an example, currently, between the state of Iowa's tax and that of the federal rate, businesses must pay 41.6 percent to government. This type of excessive business taxation has given the U.S. the dubious distinction of being the world's leader in corporate taxes. This "jobs killer" must be dealt with to improve the competitiveness of America. This provides no incentive at all for corporations to retain or create jobs in this country. Ireland's overall rate on companies is 12.5 percent, Singapore has just introduced a program for start up businesses with the first three years almost tax free, China at 25 percent features special districts minimizing rates even further. We are in an economic trade war for the jobs provided by our companies. With two hands tied behind our back we passively surrender our American workers pay to other countries by failing to provide our companies with freedom from burdensome tax rates. This must be stopped now and American jobs must come first.
Past proposals, from various members of Congress of a five or ten percent cut on federal taxes will not make a difference for companies in this competition for jobs with foreign countries. We need to take action to bring the jobs back for the 18 million jobless or underemployed workers.

LA Times, WSJ, USA Today, 11.1 Update on NY 23rd race
ONLY CONSERVATIVES CAN INSURE A REPUBLICAN VICTORY FOR AMERICA
Now we know beyond a shadow of doubt, Scozzafava was not a conservative Republican. Pro abortion, pro gay marriage, pro taxation, pro union open voting, pro increase in taxes and now one can add to her portfolio pro democrat Owens endorsement.
I remain amazed that several Republicans like Newt Gingrich supported Scozzafava until the very end. Rush Limbaugh was totally correct on his analysis of Scozzafava and her RINO label. He is also correct when he repeats on numerous occasions that for the Republicans to win they must abandon this moderate and bipartisan nonsense. We face a democrat, liberal, take no prisoners strategy. It's time we proclaim our conservatism boldly and openly without apology or equivocation. Let us proudly defend,
A strong national defense,
An end to debt expansion and increased taxes.
A strong pro life and defense of traditional marriage act,
Continued proclamation of American freedom and individualism,
An effort to enforce the criminal laws already enacted,
An all out effort to promote the private sector and removal of unnecessary government regulations,
Greater promotion of individual freedom and small business entrepreneurship,
Promotion of a job creation and restoration program which minimizes corporate taxes and government controls,
Elimination of deceptive tax increases disguised as cap and trade legislation,
Elimination of unnecessary health reform proposals which can add trillions to the national debt long term,
The elimination of unconstitutional czars,
Elimination of illegal immigration and restoration of our borders,
Increased support for our military establishment and forces, and victory in military conflicts,
Renewed pride and support for the U.S. at home and abroad,
We need a renewal of conservative, constitutional principles of freedom and the pursuit of liberty and happiness. If we Republicans are to govern in the future it will only be with the consent of the American people, realizing we will make a life long commitment to conservatism. The Washington lobbyists must be replaced with the voices of average voters who want their country back. There can be no substitute for victory in 2010 and 2012.

Constitutionally the government does not have this right of mandate. This administration and its propensity for requirements without due diligence and discussion is not representative of the thoughts of our founding fathers, the Bill of Rights, the democratic ideals enshrined by this nation at the time of its founding and reinforced by the American people. We Americans value our freedom, paid for by the incredible sacrifices of the men and women of our armed forces. We must be as dedicated as our soldiers and the early patriots who had to decide on a daily basis the importance of freedom's gift-liberty.
A young thirty three year old patriot, Thomas Jefferson, penned the following words "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness -- That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, -- that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it"
I find agreement in the Constitution for the underpinning of President Ronald Reagan's words articulated in a major address on America's Economic Bill of Rights on July 3, 1987."Freedom is not created by government, nor is it a gift from those in political power. It is, in fact, secured, more than anything else, by those limitations I mentioned that are placed on those in government. It is the absence of the government censor in our newspapers and broadcast stations and universities. It is the lack of fear by those who gather in religious services. LA Times, Wall Street Journal, 10.27Gingrich is wrong on NY 23
Has Gingrich stolen conservative values like the Grinch stole Christmas? Is he in touch with American traditional values?
Newt's endorsement of liberal Republican Dede Scossafava in the New York 23rd special election is in my opinion out of touch with national reality. Scossafava has been an abortion rights advocate who often favors tax increases and gay marriage. Her husband is an upstate New York organizer for the union. In fact she supported the federal "card check" legislation eliminating "free choice" which would greatly increase union membership. Michelle Malkin in her article, "Dear Newt Gingrich: Meet Ronald Reagan on October 20, 2009" reported that Gingrich invoked the former President's name in attempting to justify his support of Scossafava.
Malkin's Reagan quote is exactly where traditional conservative Republicans, Democrats and many Americans are in their thinking, "A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers." I would add to Reagan's admonition these additional words for your consideration. Any candidate for public office cannot be all things to all voters but instead must be honest, faithful to his commitments in government service, marriage, moral, traditional constitutional, and patriotic values.
In the Politico article "Newt: Hoffman support a mistake" by Andy Barr, October 26, 2009 Mr. Gingrich is quoted several times. When asked why he chose to back Scossafava he responded "Let's just start with she is the nominee of the local party. My bias is to be for the nominee of the local party, and I don't second guess the local party" That's a shame Mr. Gingrich, does that infer you would support Mark Sanford for continuance as South Carolina Governor if the Republican party in that state endorsed him? I will not support someone who does not enunciate and stand for true traditional conservatism and American values, especially not for President.
Gingrich in that same article is quoted as having said that "I just think it is a mistake for the conservative movement to think splitting in the special election is a smart idea…If we give that seat to the Democrats, shame on us." Mr. Gingrich, in my opinion, if Scossafava is elected, philosophically that's exactly what will happen-the election of a RINO. Have your forgotten that in spite of facing pressure to endorse liberalism, many Democrats split their ticket and voted for Ronald Reagan?
Finally. Mr. Gingrich's statement that "All of those things together make her-it seems to me-a legitimate, authentic, Republican nominee." As a conservative, wanting to protect our constitutional freedoms and support our great nation in the face of threats to freedom and liberty, I don't care about her validity as a Republican candidate. I want a committed conservative who stands for the principles that Ronald Reagan enunciated and for which through the years the finest of our military have given their lives, that's freedom's gift.

The New Yorker, 10.16 It's time for unity, Don't sweat the differences
IT' S TIME FOR UNITY, DON'T SWEAT THE DIFFERENCES, A GRANDFATHER'S WORDS FROM THE HEARTLAND My honest appraisal of America by a Midwestern grandfather in the fall of 2009 is one of division. A pole today or perhaps a survey to be printed next week, the results are the same, our nation is divided along, party lines, philosophical preferences, culture, class, ethnicity, and perception. At an historical moment of great testing, America needs to come together as a people to face an economic challenge not seen since the Great Depression. We are facing a continued loss of jobs, increased national debt, home foreclosures, and minimal indicators of economic growth and expansion. Blame is being laid at the feet of, former Presidents, President Obama, the Congress, media, conservatives, liberals, Republicans, Democrats, healthcare reform, foreign military conflicts, government programs, wall street, climatologic, most anything. Our nation can only achieve the successful recovery needed, if blame and disunity cease. For synergy to succeed, we must come together as a people. Whether or not he received your vote Barack Obama is now our President, the problem of growing debt is now our inheritance, the loss of jobs and the need to create new ones is now our challenge, President Hoover learned too late in 1929-31 that an unusual increase in productivity can have a negative impact on employment resulting in too many products chasing an inadequate amount of income, and outsourcing as companies attempt to curtail productions costs. We must create and restore jobs to the nation or the percentage of jobless will continue to rise. Recently, Senator Chris Dodd criticized bank for failing to make more credit available to individuals and small businesses. Recently, Associated Press writer Tom Raum, alerted us to the fact that "even with an economic revival, many U.S. jobs lost during the recession may be forever lost and a weak employment market could linger for years. That could lead up to a new normal of higher joblessness and lower standards of living for many Americans, some economists are suggesting." Raum points out that auto and contraction industries can no longer lead us out of recessions Writing in the Hofstra University Economic Report, November/December 2003, Dr. Irwin Kellner offered several solutions to ameliorate the paucity of jobs in his recession. He expressed the need for the country to make it more attractive for business to produce goods and services in the U.S. Kellner went so far as to suggest that the government do even more along the lines of approving a one-time tax holiday to companies that return to the U.S. profits and jobs they have been keeping in nations outside the country. He also suggested the used of our unemployed ( including returning veterans) to be used as a powerful work force for a WPA style project to upgrade the nation's infrastructure. The main roadblock to job creation-restoration and economic recovery remains our devastating divisions. We came together briefly after 9/11 and the world marveled at America's resiliency and resolve. Let's set our criticisms and vitriolic rhetoric aside for our national health and economic recovery. Please consider this grandfather's plea, for in the last analysis, rather than conservative or liberal Republican or democrat, I am first and foremost an American
