A NEW DAY IS DAWNING America will once again become known as a nation where dreams can become realities through hard work and freedom to achieve, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As a son of hardworking parents, born in a small town in Illinois, I experienced the joy of family and friends who reaffirmed our great republic as the envy and hope of the world. I have seen America as a boy growing up in several towns and a city in Texas. I was an only child in a home where my parents through hard work and prayer provided moral support for a son to overcome asthma and other challenges. I never heard my parents criticize this great nation for they were too busy pointing out the country’s successes reminding me that nothing was impossible in America. In announcing his intention to run for the Presidency in (11/13/1979) Ronald Reagan defined in his own way the difference between an American and others when he poined out that an American lives in anticipation of the future knowing it will be a great experience. We Americans in contrast to other people who expect the future to be a repetition of past failures are optimists. If there is one thing we know it is that history need not be repeated; nothing is impossible and Americans through hard work are capable of improving their circumstances. I do not believe that America is in decline, weak and void of further greatness and achievement. Like Reagan I don’t buy for one moment the professional politician’s conclusion that our challenges are too great, our resources too slim to solve complicated problems. These misconceptions try to convince us to live with less, and educate our children that their lives will be less prosperous than our generation. Consequently, these predictors of lowered expectations suggest we shouldn’t dream and expect those images to come true, obviously these false prophets are wrong. The number one problem facing America today remains the loss of jobs. High unemployment is widespread and little is being done by this administration to face a growing tragedy. Millions of my fellow Americans are out of work unable to pay for the necessities of life. The cost of living is rising each day while our standard of living declines. This economic disaster simply is not acceptable in this great land. Companies must be reincentivized to restore jobs in America through lower corporate state levy’s coupled with dramatic reductions on federal taxes, and an increased worker capacity for exports. The government must stop overspending, over regulating, overtaxing, and reduce the national debt. Americans must never stand still while joblessness, rising prices, and unbridled government spending destroy the retirement, home equity and economic future of us all, America must come first. America is worth the maximum energy and effort of any individual who truly cares for every citizen. This nation’s greatness and generosity for all people on this earth who mean well will be manifested to each civilization in the near future. Never give up on America. Dr. Alan G. Phillips, Sr.
