WSJ August 10, Republicans Gather to Plot Strategy for 2010, Doug Blackman, V Bauerlein

Alan Phillips respo
. Kathy Barkulis is right on message with her comments on Doug Blackman and Valerie Bauerlein's article entitled "Republicans Gather to Plot Strategy for 2010." I commented in the Des Moines Register, weeks ago, after Mississippi Governor Barbour spoke at the Iowa GOP's "Night of Rising Stars" highlighting their coming candidate lineup. Barbour was asked by the Iowa Press to comment on South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's indiscretions, "would he have to resign?" to which the governor responded that, Sanford's indiscretion was not a "hanging offense," and wouldn't change one vote. Really? Our personal friends in South Carolina have already been affected and Sanford's indiscretions will change their votes. Yes "Virginia," there might be a Santa Claus but a candidate for President who is not in touch with the voters? No! Yes, we do indeed (using Kathy Barkulis' comments) need to recruit conservatives who are not career politicians, The founders did it in their day and Kathy's comment is right on target for 2010-12. I totally agree with her and hope that eventually even the Mississippi Governor will come to recognize that fact. I disagree with those who first formulate strategy and then start campaigning. Perhaps, it's time to develop a litmus test for new nominees, the paradigm should include honesty, integrity, commitment to oaths of office and marital fidelity. Governor Barbour a candidate for President in 2012? perhaps. A winning candidate for President in 2012, I don't think so.
Thanks again Kathy!
