Senator Grassley is doing heavy lifting as he tries to help fashion a healthcare bill which protects the individual's right to retain private health insurance, an effort on his part to be commended. The thrust, to build a government choice component into the Senate bill however may not be necessary. I remain firmly committed to those portions of the Republican Party Platform from 1980 (Health section), which give the American people choice.

"As consumers of health care, individual Americans and their families, should be able to make their own choices about health care protection. We propose to assist them...through tax and financial incentives. ...We must maintain our commitment to the aged and the poor by providing quality care through Medicare and Medicaid. These programs need the careful, detailed reevaluation they have not received from Democrats, who have characteristically neglected their financial stability.

"Deviation," tops "class" and "race" regarding the Gate's incident. Whether we like it or not we are still being watched by our youth, making "role modeling" a mandate for the President, Professor and the Policeman. The deviation if not the deletion of the major news stories buried last week by this matter is astonishing. We still face great challenges at home and abroad including; North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Taliban, Terrorism, Economic failure, job creation, recession, deficits, healthcare, just to mention those items recently driven from our consciousness. Even such a great question as "What is Sarah Palin Planning to Do?" disappeared from most radar screens. I am convinced however, that the future remains bright for America even after this latest game of trivial pursuit.

If rumors are true that Vice President Joe Biden did not have an alcoholic beverage at the foursome yeasterday, I applaud and commend him.
Our nation has many role models whose dress, mannerisms, preferences, and activities have more than a passing influence on children and citizens. In America, our President should be a great role model for many to emulate. Yet, with School Principals, College/University Presidents, law enforcement officers and many parents concerned about the increase in automobile accidents caused by drunk driving, images of leaders regarding public drinking is important. With alcohol being used by 66.4 % of full time college students, coupled with 12,998 people killed in alcohol-impaired traffic crashes in 2007 (MADD), we must be careful with regard to the signals sent to the nation’s youth.
All of us, including the President, must realize that children watch and often imitate important adults. Let’s hope that the concept of “role modeling” will once again become central to the top office of our nation.

We must provide the very best for our military and their families. Healthcare which does not offer the finest in surgery, rehab, counseling, and general medical care, must not be tolerated by a thankful nation. Our veterans and their families must come first as a priority.in healthcare. In addition to the various VA facilities, America boasts some of the finest medical centers and doctors in the world. The federal budget should provide vouchers which can be used by our military and their families for institutions such as, Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, UCLA, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, etc. in short whatever it takes. If I were standing at the CEO level for the VA--nothing less would satisfy me. Our military has given its best for this nation, I will accept no second class treatment for these heroes, nor should you!
