Overexposure in the media and under sensitivity to the opinions and suggestions of the American people is a certain formula for public weariness and disinterest. One of President Clinton's strengths in the midst of his weaknesses was an ability to listen to voters and when necessary recycle a plan and reposition an idea in the mainstream. His advisors remained sensitive to the desires of a majority. This nation is still based upon traditional values and constitutional freedoms and consequently is not fertile ground for unproven proposals.
Also, missing from the administration's proposals are recycling provisions which actively elicit contrasting points of view. Right or wrong there exists in the current political ethos the notion that it's the administration's proposal or the proverbial highway. The concept of take it or leave it, if the administration's ideas are opposed, will result in great numbers of disaffected voters. To be successful and govern effectively a president needs supporters not disgruntled citizens. He and his advisors need a plan for success which features listening, assessment and benchmarking., that's the key to effectiveness in leadership.
